Tolka Branch outing to Howth:  Lots of Sand Martins around the East Pier;  several Black Guillemots in the harbour; good numbers of Gannets, Great-black Backed Gulls, Guillemots spotted nesting across on Ireland's Eye; and close up views of juvenile Gannets diving just off the lighthouse at the end of the harbour wall.   Up past Balscadden on the hill of Howth, the cliffs were host to100s of nesting Kittiwake (one chick spotted), a few nesting Shags (one with two chicks) and a few nesting Fulmar.  A Kestrel made a couple of flypast manoeuvres over the nests causing a little stir amongst the Kittiwakes but left empty-clawed.  Good news for Stonechats, as we saw two juveniles and a male flitting around in Alder trees on the hill.  One female Reed Bunting, a handful of Linnets, Wrens and Robins were seen and heard amongst the ferns.RD
