Dublin 5:  I heard a loud thump on the kitchen window this morning and grabbed the camera. At first I thought the Sparrowhawk had hit the window but in fact it was a stunned Pigeon which he was eyeing from the wall. There followed a mighty battle followed by the ignominious demise of the aforementioned pigeon. I didn’t think a sparrowhawk would take on something this big. After 15 minutes of plucking and eating, he dragged the bloody remains into the undergrowth.JG

Drimnagh:  A flock of 16/17 Waxwing arrived  in Drimnagh this morning. They spent a couple of hours devouring most of the berries in two cotoneaster bushes in my garden. They were sitting on a telegraph pole, swooping down to the two bushes to eat berries and flying back to the pole. When I looked at the rest of the garden, towards rear of my house, a number of Pyrocantha bushes had been stripped of berries.AW
