BREAKING NEWS:   Ireland's first ever Collared Flycatcher was found today. It is apparently a 1st summer male and was found on Tory Island today by Robert Vaughan. A great bird and a great find. Well done Robert.

Glasnevin:  Among the nesting birds in the garden include Common Blackbird, European Starling, Eurasian Robin, House Sparrow (two nests), and Common WoodPigeon, while a few weeks ago, we were visited by a male Eurasian Sparrowhawk.FM&HM

National Dawn Chorus Day:  Many thanks to Dr Matthew Jebb of the Botanic Gardens for permitting us 
entry to the gardens at 4 a.m. and greeting us at such an early time.

An especially big thank you to all those who joined us for the Dawn Chorus at the Botanic Gardens at "yawn o'clock" to hear a Song Thrush open the concert which was just the start of a magnificant chorus of birdsong on a beautiful mild fresh morning.   Dermot McCabe, John Fox and Ger Franck were our most helpful birdsong identifiers.  Species heard and seen:  Song Thrush, Blackbird, Magpie, Robin, Goldcrest, Woodpigeon, Blackcap, Pheasant, Rooks, Blue Tit, Mistle Thrush, Wren, Moorhen, Chaffinch, Mallard, Dunnock, Great Tit, Goldfinch and Treecreeper.  Swifts and Swallows were also see also circling the Gardens.  

Donabate:  2 Buzzards, a Kestrel & a Sparrowhawk over M1 at Donabate.AR

I am happy to report the Dolphins Barn Swifts and the St James's Hospital Swifts arrived this morning. A clear sign of summer, brrrrrr! MS

Bull Island:  House Martins have returned and are rebuilding their nests on the Royal Dublin Golf Course clubhouse. Six Hundred and fifty summer-plumaged Dunlin on the mud flats, along with Sanderling and Ringed Plovers. Many of the Sanderling also coming into summer plumage.GF

Glasnevin:  We have Common Starlings nesting in our gutters - this has been the third consecutive year of which this has happened.FM&HM

Glasnevin:  discovered this Sparrowhawk feeding today on the footpath outside Botanical Gardens. It was unfazed as I pulled up in the car beside it, and continued to feed while I watched.RS
