Portmarnock 'Rocks' for 6:20am for some crack of dawn photos:
while sitting under the 'Wall' watching the early morning light
unfold, a beautiful shape flew over, heading towards 'The Eye' -
A Long-eared Owl (I'm presuming 'cos of the overall dark
shape even into light).BC

Turvey Park South hide and surroundings @8-30am with a clear sky
and a light breeze, 9°c. Birds spotted... Mute Swans, 54
Brent Geese, 7 Pink-footed Geese, Shelduck,
Wigeon, Mallard, Teal, 11 Shoveler, Tufted
Duck, Cormorant, 23 Little Grebe, Great
Black-backed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Common
Gull, Black-headed Gull, Grey Heron, 21 Little
Egret, Coot, Moorhen, Oystercatcher, Lapwing,
Ringed Plover, Golden Plover, Grey Plover, Dunlin,
Sanderling, Snipe, Black-tailed Godwit, Curlew,
Redshank, Kestrel, 2 Sparrowhawk, 2 Peregrine,
Merlin, 5 Buzzard, Pheasant, Woodpigeon,
Collared Dove, Pied Wagtail, Grey Wagtail, Meadow
Pipit, Robin, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Mistle
Thrush, Stonechat, Goldcrest, Wren, Blue
Tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Jackdaw,
Rook, Raven, Hooded Crow, Magpie, Starling,
House Sparrow, Dunnock, Goldfinch, Chaffinch,
Bullfinch, Greenfinch, Linnet, Reed
Bunting. Finished up @ 3-30pm with a total of 65 species,
meeting a few birding friends along the way. Sightings by Brian
Carruthers & John Fields.

Howth: Please find enclosed photo of a Herring Gull
taken at approx 4.00pm today in Howth. As you can see, it can be
clearly ID'd as 2KP. I wish to report this Gull for gross
intimidation as it stood there on the wall watching us enjoying
our Scampi and Chips from Beshoffs (just behind us, across the
road). It only left us briefly during this period to harass two
young children on another bench, so the Gull may also be guilty
of Ice-Cream Theft. So the bird ringing scheme has given us a
way to serve ASBOs on these belligerent individuals! JH...
...In mitigation, Beshoff's Scampi and Chips are worth a try.
Only the gullible would sit in range of an opportunist like this
guy (or gull). DMcC
